The Open Track Lapping at Palmer Series (OT LAPS) is an afternoon, half-day program open to novice, intermediate, and advanced drivers. OT LAPS provides lapping sessions with drivers grouped by experience level.
OT LAPS provides three (3) 20-minute on track sessions per group. The novice group always runs separately from the advanced and intermediate groups.
For novice drivers, driving coaches and staff provide basic instruction and safety training via classroom sessions.
Classroom sessions introduce the basics for driving on the race track:
» Track safety basics: safety flags, pitting procedures, point-by passing rules.
» Vehicle dynamics: Traction limits, weight transfer, friction circle physics.
» Threshold braking and initiating turns for speed and traction.
» Consistency in driving, car placement, and sighting/visual focus.
» What to do in a spin, reacting to on-track incidents at speed.
Instructors are also available to provide one-on-one coaching to novice drivers if arranged in advance.
Intermediate and advanced group drivers can expect 3 sessions and 60+ minutes of track time.
Novice drivers may wish to reviewHPDE school requirements and experienced track drivers may review lapping day requirements. For questions, please
