(Curbing News Continued)
We were fortunate to be invited to visit the legendary Indianapolis Speedway to learn about their track safety designs and how it has been engineered at their facility. Catch fencing, fixed and removable curbing, safer barriers, safety lighting, communications -- the Indianapolis Speedway has safety features that reflect their decades of racing experience. We came away impressed by their ingenuity and sincerely grateful for their willingness to share their time and experience with us.
The Indy Speedway uses FIA compliant bidirectional curbing on their road course, which they fabricated themselves. They also use custom-fabricated removable curbing that can be used as-needed for different course configurations and events. This removable curbing is installed and anchored to the track to provide secure and safe curbing where needed.
The Indy Speedway also uses safer barrier around the high-speed oval, which they also fabricate and maintain on site. These barriers absorb high-speed energy impacts and are designed to be serviced and replaced quickly and efficiently. Their track safety components -- catch fencing, barrier, lights, curbing -- are designed to work together to enhance safety for drivers, spectators, and staff (flaggers, photographers, rescue workers, etc) during racing events.
